Ginetta, TOCA & Revamped Series

Ginetta has confirmed the Ginetta Junior Championship and a revised Michelin Ginetta GT Supercup will retain their popular place as a support series to the British Touring Car Championship until 2016.

Having renewed their contract with organising body TOCA, the deal coincides with the decision to replace the existing G50 sub-class with one solely for G50 GT4 cars from the onset of next season’s Michelin Ginetta GT Supercup.

With over 150 Ginetta G50’s in circulation across the globe – many of which are homologated GT4 cars – the move aims to enable more Ginetta owners – including foreign car owners – to compete in the single-make championships, as well as further bridge the gap between its entry-level G40 Junior and GT5 Challenge series and the premier G55 class.

Speaking about the revised Michelin Ginetta GT Supercup which will see the G50 class open only to G50 GT4-specification cars, Ginetta Chairman Lawrence Tomlinson added; “We are looking forward to seeing our championships continue to flourish on the TOCA package, and the series updates are designed to make our race series as accessible as possible to existing and new customers alike.

“As our most popular race car, there are well over a hundred Ginetta GT4’s in various guises racing worldwide, and by equalising cars from different years of homologation, we are certain the BRDC-qualifying Michelin Ginetta GT Supercup will remain the race series of choice for many aspiring drivers.”

As two of the most popular BTCC supports, the Ginetta Junior Championship joined the TOCA package in 2008, a year ahead of the G50 Cup which committed in 2009, before being rebranded as the Michelin Ginetta GT Supercup for the 2011 season with the introduction of the new Ginetta G55.

Commenting on the decision to remain with TOCA for a further three years, Ginetta Championships Manager Max Gregory added; “We are delighted to confirm that two of our three single-make championships will retain their position as part of what is one undoubtedly one of the UK’s most popular racing package for another three years.

“It is crucial for Ginetta to offer something worthwhile for all our customers, and racers on the TOCA package receive unrivalled broadcast and print media coverage, as well as great exposure to thousands of fans at each of the race meetings throughout the season for themselves, the team and their sponsors.”

This commitment is further backed by global tyre manufacturer Michelin extending its title sponsorship of the Ginetta GT Supercup for a further two years as well as the series being announced as a BRDC qualifying championship earlier this year.

Many thanks to Ginetta for this news.
