Michael Meadows: 2013 Porsche Carrera Cup GB Champion

Michael Meadows is celebrating victory in 2013 Porsche Carrera Cup GB after securing his second title in the final race of the season at Brands Hatch yesterday.

Meadows became the first driver since Damien Faulkner in 2005/06 to win back-to-back Carrera Cup GB titles. He joined the championship in 2010 as one of the Carrera Cup Scholarship drivers and finished runner-up in 2011 before taking his first title in 2012.

This year, Meadows (26) headed the Samsung Smart Motorsport team and was always the benchmark for the season. In 20 races, he set 16 pole positions, scored eight race wins and a further five podiums and set 10 fastest laps. He has scored more Carrera Cup poles than any other driver and now ranks third in terms of total race wins behind Tim Harvey and Richard Westbrook.

I went for the points in the last race and it worked, said Meadows at a very wet and slippery Brands Hatch. I didnt have anything to prove by winning the final race: wed already won eight races this year. There have been plenty of highs this season, but plenty of lows as well. Winning the championship at Brands was the best high of all. The initial feeling was relief that the job was done.

Now his thoughts will turn to the future and Michael has plans for his next step, “Ive made it clear for two years that I want to step up to the Porsche Supercup and its a case of waiting for the right opportunities. You need to go in there with the right situation to try and win it. Well have to wait and see what happens”.
