FIM Endurance World Championship Le Mans

The FIM Endurance World Championship has been decided – Suzuki Endurance Racing Team (SERT) claimed its 13th title while Team Motors Events April Moto became 2013 Endurance World Cup winners.

It was non stop action at the legendary French circuit, early fallers included Vincent Philippe on the SERT number 1 bike which put the the team down to 49th. Subsequent radiator and engine problems hindered SERT’s chances of a podium finish but even with a mid-race engine rebuild the squad finished 12th in class to score enough points to outrank the Yamaha France bike that was the only title threat by the closing stages of the race.

R2CL had an excellent race and from the early stages was battling for a podium place. Ultimately the team took second overall. Riders Dylan Buisson and Gwen Giabbani were joined by road racer Guy Martin who took the flag for the French team. The points for second place promoted R2CL to fourth in the championship. Fourth place in the race was taken by Team 18 Sapeurs-Pompiers.

In the Superstock championship, Team Motors Events April Moto finished the race fifth overall and first in class to take the title followed by Junior Team LMS Suzuki for second in both the race and the championship. Despite retiring from the race with a gearbox problem, previous standings leaders Penz13.com Franks Autowelt Racing Team had already scored enough points to give them third for the year.

Only 35 of the 56 starters lasted the 24 hours and retirements included the Honda TT Legends team following a serious incident in the sixth hour. Simon Andrews was riding in third position when he was involved in a multiple-bike accident. Andrews was taken to hospital where he has since been diagnosed with two broken legs, a broken forearm and shoulder, broken ribs causing a punctured lung and three broken vertebrae in his lower back. Paddock42 wish Simon a speedy recovery.
