MGCC MG Trophy Championship – Ashton takes the title

MGCC MG Trophy Championship – despite two wins at Snetterton by current champion Chris Bray, Andrew Ashton wrapped up his season with a 2nd and 5th in class to take the championship title.

The fun started in qualifying with two cars rolling over at Murrays, both drivers were OK but their cars needed considerable work to get them ready in time for the first of the two races at 2.30.

Trophy Co-ordinator Macwaters said “Both Paul Butler and Dan Jones fell foul of the sausage kerbs at Murrays, Dan’s car was the worst of the two and he raced with no glass but Butler managed to get a new screen fitted in time for his race.”

Twenty cars made the first race start and with the scottish contingent absent Chris Bray had less competition at the front but second place man Ross Makar pushed him hard initially, Doug Cole took third. In the class C battle honours went to Rich Marsh with his first Trophy class win, Ashton keeping him honest.

The second race was a repeat in class B with Bray again taking the win, Makar and Cole were joined together for the entire race. Class C went to Alastair Rushforth with Marsh, who started from the back of the grid, an excellent second. Youngster Butler did well to take third following his quali roll. Ashton finished 5th with no brakes to clinch the title.
