P42 talk racing with RMD owner Marc Devis

Paddock42 caught up with RMD owner, racer, collector and all round GT fanatic Marc Devis.

p42: Marc, many thanks for taking the time to talk with us how did you end up in the race car business?

MD: Purely by chance – as a kid I was just inspired when I first saw a  Jaguar E-Type in the 1960’s but then 25 or so years ago I began collecting for myself buying MGB’s and moving up from there. Business wise only started selling race cars seriously in the last couple of years; selling some of my own cars but I also started to have contacts call me up and say “hey can you sell my….” and we have developed from there.

p42: These cars are rare how do you find your stock?

MD: Cars find you; I spend a lot of time in the paddock and I suppose naturally networking and of course through old contacts.

“I once discovered a 2.8 RSR in a barn, the owner had no idea what it was, it was a once in a lifetime find”

p42: The market  has seen big increases in values over the last few years how do you see the market?

MD: Well yes certain models have gone up, personally I see the historic market in two classes; investment grade and pure race cars. Investment grade cars are the very best, exceptional history and they continue to increase in value. Pure race cars, these cars are driven and well raced tend to be more of a static market.

p42: Where do you buyers generally come from?

MD: US market and Australia are my two biggest markets but Europe is also strong with buyers in the UK, France and Germany.

p42: Are you a racer yourself?

MD: I started racing in the 1990’s with a 1948 Maserati Monfaro and have raced historics ever since with some years racing as many as 30 to 40 races a season. I am off to race at Sebring this month, its my first time at the track and I am really looking forward to it. I have done a a bit of rallying too, having competed in the East Africa Safari Classic – sales wise I focus on race cars rather than rally cars for sale as the rally world is a very specialist market and you can’t be an expert in everything!

p42: What was your most interesting find?

MD: A Porsche 2.8 RSR, the owner had no idea what it was, the car was just tucked away in a barn in the US. It would be nice if you did, but you  just don’t find cars like that everyday – a very special once in a lifetime find.

Many thanks to Marc Devis at RMD you can see all Marc’s current available cars on Paddock42.
