2014 Brands Hatch Masters Festival celebrates F1

Masters Historic Racing will celebrate 50 years since Brands Hatch hosted its first World Championship Grand Prix at its annual Brands Hatch Masters Festival, to be run on the weekend of May 24/25, 2014 on the full Grand Prix circuit.

The weekend will celebrate the 50th anniversary of the first Grand Prix to be held at Brands Hatch (the 1964 RAC Grand Prix d’Europe), won by Jim Clark’s Lotus 25-Climax by just 2.8 seconds from Graham Hill’s BRM P261. Masters Historic Racing will also be organising a display of as many Brands Hatch Grand Prix-winning cars as possible to celebrate the venue’s importance in the history of Formula One as well as demonstration laps by Formula One cars of all eras. A weekend to celebrate Formula One at Brands Hatch will be the centrepiece of the Brands Hatch Masters Festival.

In a break with tradition, the Brands Hatch Masters Festival will run on Saturday and Sunday, with the Bank Holiday Monday being given over to a Masters Indy circuit meeting for club racing. By making the move to Saturday and Sunday for the Grand Prix circuit activity, Masters aims to encourage a greater number of overseas competitors as well as avoid competing against other distractions for potential spectators on the Bank Holiday.

Off-track, there will be car club displays, trade stalls and entertainment making a fun day for all the family that is more than just a race meeting.

Masters Historic Racing Event Manager Rachel Bailey said: “We are very excited about our Brands Hatch Masters Festival for 2014. The event will be headlined by the FIA Masters Historic Formula One Championship and the FIA Masters Historic Sports Car Championship, plus we will be welcoming guest races from the HGPCA, Formula Junior and Motor Racing Legends. By moving the main days to Saturday and Sunday we are targeting a greater number of European racers and thanks to the inclusion of the HGPCA we will be looking at the evolution of grand Prix cars from the 1930s to the mid-1980s. It should be a great weekend.”

More details of the event will be released soon.
