Good grid numbers for 2014 MG Trophy Championship

The MG Trophy Championship confirmed that it has 24 registrations to date for the fast approaching 2014 season.

The championship started originally back in 1998 as the MGF Cup and it supported the British GP but today it is a all front wheel drive one model championship with 3 stages of tune from the new 160 class on 1A tyres to the outright 190 class which run on slicks. Drivers can progress through the classes as they get quicker and of course if their budgets increase.

Pete Macwaters said “This is an excellent start to the season, considering we are just into February to have this number who have signed up already is very encouraging. I really believe we could start the season with 30 registered drivers, our best for some years. The introduction of the new 160 class has caught the imagination of those on a limited budget with several of the new cars under construction and some already signed up. When people realise that they could be racing on the Silverstone GP circuit in June, two weeks before the F1 teams, with a car bought for £4,300 it’s just a no brainer. Also the MG event in June, MG90, celebrates 90 years of the marque is going to be a massive event and I have one driver, who won the Australian equivalent of our championship, flying over specially to race with the British drivers on the GP circuit”.

Another date has been added to the calendar with an additional two non championship rounds in late March.
