Carlube sponsors Ginetta Junior Scholarship car for 2014

Ginetta is delighted to confirm that Carlube – the largest independent blender of oil in the UK – is to sponsor its Junior Scholarship car, driven by rising young talent Alex Sedgwick.

Already the official oil supplier to the Ginetta race series, Carlube is part of the Tetrosyl Group – the largest car care product manufacturer in Europe. Tetrosyl shares a collective vision with Ginetta when it comes to keeping manufacturing firmly within the UK and, given their already strong links, was eager to play an active role in the development of young driver talent.

Lawrence Tomlinson, chairman of Ginetta Cars, said of the announcement: “We are delighted to continue our professional relationship with Carlube. Both companies believe passionately in supporting the UK manufacturing industry and about constantly evolving our products. The Ginetta Junior Scholarship is just one of the ways in which we support driver progression and we are sure Alex and Carlube will have a successful season together.”

Sedgwick is the latest driver to emerge from the annual Ginetta Junior Scholarship. The teenager, from Southam, Warwickshire, beat 60 other drivers to secure a fully-funded season in the 2014 Ginetta Junior Championship which includes the season lease of a Ginetta Junior race car.

Sedgwick said: “It is great news that Carlube will be supporting me in my first season in the Ginetta Junior Championship. It is a great British manufacturing company with a range of well-known products and I am really looking forward to working with the Carlube team and getting them some great results.”

Peter Schofield, Group Chairman of Carlube’s parent company, Tetrosyl, added: “Carlube has had a long history in motorsport, from single marque racing to Le Mans and F1. Ginetta is a very good fit for us. Over the last few years, the chemists in our laboratories in Bury have enjoyed working closely with the Ginetta race team to develop specific racing fluids for the highly-tuned race engines and gear-boxes of the Ginetta fleet.”

Commenting on the announcement, Steve Hunter, the team principal at JHR Developments -who will run Sedgwick in his maiden sports car campaign said: “It’s exceptionally good for Alex, the team and the Ginetta Junior Scholarship to be carrying such a prestigious motoring name on the Ginetta Junior car. We are looking forward to showing it off at Brands Hatch in a few weeks.”

The first round of the Ginetta Junior Championship will take place at Brands Hatch on March 29/30, in support of the British Touring Car Championship. It will be shown live on ITV4.
