Chevron return to the GT Cup Championship

David Witt, owner of Chevron Cars Ltd, has targeted victories for the famous marque in the 2014 GT Cup following the announcement that Chevron will return to action in the successful series.

Speaking from the team’s state-of-the-art factory in Crewe, the Chevron CEO also confirmed that their number one driver Jordan Witt would compete in the full GT Cup series, driving the latest revised Chevron GT3 car which now boasts V8 power. David himself will also be participating in a separately entered car.

“Whilst the Chevron continued to be one of the best handling cars in GT racing last year, we suffered reliability problems with the V6 engine which seriously affected our results. The new V8 solution configured with our own engine modifications in the latest Chevron has returned our reliability and added to our speed. We started work six months ago on the revised 2014 car, led by our Head of Technical Development Andy Baynham. He and the team have worked long and hard to produce a racing car that enjoys great handling with speed and reliability, and yet remains half the cost of any Supercar derivative used in GT racing.

“We are pleased to confirm that Jordan will lead our GT Cup challenge in the Chevron GT3, despite options to go and compete in other series – some of them international. We are targeting wins and aiming our sights on the Championship after Jordan confirmed how competitive the new car felt following some serious testing. We were also pleased by the reaction of experienced automotive and racing media who tested the revised Chevron GT3 in sessions just before and after Christmas.”

David Witt was referring to journalists from Press Association motoring, Motor Sport magazine, Car magazine and the illustrious sports and classic car racer Mark Hales for Octane magazine. All enjoyed their time in the car and have added to the positive feedback on the 2014 Chevron.

Chevron boss Witt also confirmed that he would be driving in the 2014 GT Cup series himself after he achieved several podium results in 2012. Last season proved more difficult for the successful Cheshire based businessman after he damaged his shoulder, but he is now back to full fitness and intends to compete regularly in the revised Chevron GT4. Support drivers for the Chevron team to bolster their GT Cup challenge will be announced at a later date.

Chevron Cars Ltd have enjoyed previous success in the GT Cup with eight wins for Jordan Witt in 2012 and podium finishes despite the difficulties faced in 2013. The marque scored three podiums at Donington alone last year with three Chevrons driven by different teams. Chevron supported both CarFest North and South and has become a stalwart and class winner at the Cholmondeley Pageant of Power. The marque’s most high profile success to date was winning the prestigious Goodwood Festival of Speed Hillclimb (2012) when Anthony Reid took fastest time of the day in the Top Ten Shootout, screened live on Sky Sports and shown in recorded highlights on ITV.

With confirmed sales of Chevron GT cars in the USA and healthy international interest in the famous Chevron brand and its rich heritage, 2014 is set be a successful year. Despite the varied programme in prospect, GT Cup will be a firm target for the ambitious company from Crewe.

Many thanks to GT Cup Championship and Chevron Cars.
