Goodwood 72nd Members Meeting

Paddock42 headed to sunny West Sussex this weekend for the famous return of the Goodwood Road Racers Club (GRRC) 72nd Meeting. It was all blue sky, sunshine and daffodils with a rather large sprinkling of historic race cars…

An early start meant P42 were in the paddock by 07;00 so it was off to have breakfast in the Great Hall, the scene of the historic motor show at Goodwoods legendary Revival event. Sitting down at the long tables the smell of a full english and coffee mixed with scent of burning Castrol R that was drifting in from the Paddock. Wondering around we bumped into a few familiar faces, Mike Wilds (see Paddock42 interview with Mike) former F1 driver and sports car champion, Nick Mason historic racer and Pink Floyd drummer, Andy Priaulx Triple World Champion, Emanuele Pirro and Jochen Mass to name but a few.

Goodwood race meetings are always the place to spot some of the finest historic race and rally cars and with GRRC owners keen to keep their wheels turning in anger its always great to see and hear these very special racers in action and on full chat. It’s diverse collection that includes Mazeratis 250F’s, Ford GT40’s, Mini Cooper S, Ferrari 250’s, Ford Capris, Lotus Cortina’s, z28 Camaro’s, MGA’s and Bugattis.

The great thing about this meeting was the atmosphere, no real boundaries, everybody was free to wonder in and out the paddock, people spoke to their heros and old race buddies from yesteryear and todays race paddock. The 72nd Members Meeting was a continuation of the event last held in the 1950’s and 1960’s for the members of the BARC it was a great weekend with some close racing and we look forward to the 73rd.
