Great Opening Rounds for the MG Trophy Championship

26 cars lined up on the grid at Brands Hatch for the opening rounds of the MG Trophy Championship over the Bank Holiday weekend.

Co-ordinator Pete Macwaters said that he was delighted with the turn out, “We had 3 late withdrawals which was a real shame however I’m not going to be too disappointed with 26 !”

Both races were sponsored by Basildon MG dealer ‘Toomey MG’ who reported good sales leads for the MG6 and MG3 models on display. The TV coverage of the races will be combined with one of the Silverstone races to form a one hour TV slot for Motors TV to be shown later in the year.

Four of the new ‘160’ class cars made their race debut and were timed at 1:01.6s “Not bad for a £3,000 car” said Macwaters who is hoping more will join this new budget class.

Both races were won by pole sitter Chris Bray with Paul Luti taking second spot in race 1 but having to retire in race 2 with a puncture gifting second to Ross Makar.
