BRDC F4 racer Moore joins F3 Cup for Spa

Lanan Racing’s BRDC Formula 4 Championship driver Struan Moore has confirmed he is joining F3 Cup for the championship’s only overseas round at Spa, Belgium, on 27-29 June. The 19-year-old will partner Lanan’s F3 Cup championship leader Toby Sowery on his second visit to the home of the Belgian Grand Prix.

Moore has impressed in his second year in the BRDC F4 Championship, charging through the field in the second race at Silverstone GP in April to claim his fourth podium in eight races. Moore took his maiden single seater win at Snetterton last July and finished ninth in the overall BRDC F4 standings.

Explaining his approaching F3 Cup appearance, Moore said: “It’s all about getting experience in something a bit more powerful and has a bit more aero. I went to Belgium last year for the Fun Cup Spa 25 hour race and really enjoyed the track.

“It will be my first time in an F3 car and I’m not testing it before we go to Belgium. I will literally be turning up, testing it, getting it ready for the weekend and hopefully getting a good result.”

Moore will be racing in the Invitation Class for the weekend to ensure he doesn’t affect teammate Sowery’s title assault. Moore expects them both to perform well, saying: “I raced Toby a little bit when we were younger and I’ve always known the name. He’s a good driver and we’ll see how I get on against him. I think it will be close.

“Lanan Racing will be strong and I think we’ll be the strongest drivers there, so hopefully we can bring it home for a good result all round for the team.”

Graham Johnson, Lanan Racing team principal, said: “We’re delighted to have Struan with us in F3 Cup for Spa. The race should help his progression in single seaters and will be valuable experience for him.”

F3 Cup returns to Spa for the first time in two years on 27-29 June for rounds seven and eight.
