British Superkarts Donington Park

British Superkarts Donington Park – Carl Hulme secured the British Superkarts Division 1 championship in dramatic fashion at Donington at the weekend (13th/14th July)…Words by Gary James

In race 1 Gavin Bennett opened up a big lead after Hulme spun on the exit of Redgate and was clipped by Liam Morley. Unfortunately Morley retired in the gravel trap but Hulme was able to continue. Bennett eased his pace after setting a new lap record and this allowed Hulme to close in. Hulme challenged for the lead at Redgate on the last lap but Bennett held him off to take the win.

In race two the grid was reversed and on the way to Redgate Bennett was looking to take the lead around the outside with Hulme looking for the inside slot. Unfortunately, Dave Harvey locked up and cannoned into Hulme who then hit Bennett. Bennett’s race and championship chances ended in the gravel trap while Hulme continued with a severely damaged nose cone. Charles Craven took advantage of the first corner incident and opened a big lead, which he held to the flag. The scrap for second involved Harvey, Dredge, Kinsey and a recovering Hulme. Hulme dropped out on the final lap with brake issues leaving Harvey to just hold off Kinsey and Dredge.
