P42 gets ready for the Silverstone Classic 2014

Paddock42 are looking forward to being trackside at the Silverstone Classic, if you are making the trip to Northamptonshire this weekend expect to see some legendary race cars, big sounds and non stop action…

Star drivers will be on the grid with triple BTCC Champion Matt Neal who will be piloting his new Lotus Cortina along with 2009 BTCC Champion Colin Turkington who will race a Ford Galaxie and FIA World Touring Car Championship contender Rob Huff who will be behind the wheel of a Mini Cooper S. These BTCC legends will be competing in the Masters Pre-66 Touring Car Championship races which will be running under the pseudonym of the Mustang Celebration Trophy at the event.

Expect some close racing in the Classic F3’s, 40 cars are expected to line up on the grid as HSCC Classic F3 and its corresponding French championship come together this weekend. This is thought to be one of the biggest grids of 1600cc and 2-litre era cars to have to have lined up in the UK and the event marks 50 years since the creation of the modern Formula 3 category for the 1964 season. These were the cars that launched the careers of Ayrton Senna, Nigel Mansell, Nelson Piquet, Derek Warwick and many others.

Other races include, Pre 61 Sports Cars, Historic F1, Pre’66 GT Cars, HGPCA Pre 66 GP Cars, FIA Masters Historic Sports Cars, HGPCA Pre 61 GP Cars, Group C Endurance and RAC Woodcote Trophy for Pre’ 56 Sports Cars.

It is a full programme and one of the highlights has to be the Group C cars racing into the evening, reminiscent of those heady days of Group C sports car racing of the 1980’s.
