BARC Oulton Park Season Opener

Typically frantic Legends action and the opening round of the CNC Heads Sports & Saloon Championship topped the bill at Oulton Park’s first event of the 2015 season.

John Mickel took a clean sweep of all three Legends races on Saturday, including a hard fought win in the Championship Final at the end of the day. His largest margin of victory was just 0.2 seconds, showing how close the competition will be for the title this year.

The CNC Heads Sports & Saloon race saw a varied 30 car grid, with everything from a Saker sports prototype to Ford Fiesta taking the start. Paul Rose was never headed during the 15 minute encounter, winning by over 10 seconds from Joe Spencer’s Locosaki kit car. Steve Harris completed the podium in his Saker Rapx GT.

The first Citroen 2CV race of the day was marred by a serious accident at Old Hall on the opening lap. Once the circuit had been cleared, a shortened 10 minute race was won by Kris Tovey, followed by Jon Davis and Richard Lambert. In the second race of the day, Pete Sparrow took victory by over 8 seconds, from Kris Tovey and Matt Lambert.

The McMillan Motorsport Caterham Graduates series had three races, for a variety of different classes of Caterham. The first race of the day, for Sigmax class cars, was taken Neil Shinner by just a tenth of a second after a fantastic battle with Jeremy Webb. Dylan Stanley completed the podium in third place.

The next race, for Mega & Super class Caterham 7’s, was won by Oliver Gibson, who took victory by a huge 12 second margin over John Ogilvie and Glenn Burtenshaw. The final race of the day, for Classic & Sigma class Caterhams, saw the closest winning margin of the day. Andrew Outterside took the flag by just two-hundredths of a second from Jason Gale, with Andrew Connolly in third place.
