Brands Hatch Mini Festival 2015

The Self Preservation Society could be heard being sung across Kent at the weekend as Brands Hatch held its annual Mini Festival, with racing, plenty of club displays and trade stands. Small, fast and big thanks to Sir Alec Issigonis were the order of the day.

A 30 car grid in the Mini7’s made for plenty of action and even a red flag, but that’s mini racing. Since the inception of the Mini7 Racing Club and its one make series in 1966, the action has always been ‘door handle to door handle stuff’ with many big names cutting their teeth in the championship before heading off to even higher acclaim, James Hunt, Graham Hill, Jack Brabham and Jim Clark all spent time behind the wheel of the these pocket rockets back in the day.

The Power Maxed Mini Challenge also put on a fine display of close racing and held 3 races over the weekend. The series, which is running 3 classes this season with the addition of the new Gen3 purpose-built racer,  continues to have full grids and plenty of action at every circuit they travel to over the year. Lawrence Davey nearly managed to make it 3 wins from 3, but had to settle for second in the third race of the weekend with David Grady taking the top step and close rival Ryan Rhode finishing his weekend with two seconds and a third.
