BARC at Brands, MGOC, Blue Oval & Touring Cars Galore…

It was mixed conditions for drivers last weekend (25th & 26th July) at Brands Hatch but for Saturday mornings qualifying, bright, sunny and warm weather shone down on the BARC organised event…

Racing started just before the lunch break, with a good turnout and full grids, only the Sevensque Sportscar series came up short having only 6/7 cars in the programme, but other drivers were offered the chance to enter and soon the grid numbers were up. It was a welcome addition to the field, but the additional drivers were shown a fairly clean set of heals by the Caterhams of Watson, Singleton and Charman as the race concluded and the chequered flag was waved.

My race of the day was the ‘Hammerite Thunders’ race on the Saturday, apart from the race being close throughout,  the Nissan skyline GTR of Darren Bly caught fire at the entrance of Clearways on the final lap to still crossed the line to take the win. Unfortunately the car never re-appeared for the Sunday race…

Sunday’s weather was awful with heavy rain throughout most of the day making conditions pretty ‘interesting’ with the meeting enduring plenty of safety car periods and a red flag during the MG Owners Car Club Championship where after the third accident, all the drivers where all sent back to the paddock. 3 strikes and your out.

Despite the weather, still a good weekends racing with varied saloon car events ranging from the Saxo’s of the Juniors, the Pre 66 Classic & Historic Touring Cars, modern touring cars from the 80’s and 90’s and not forgetting those monsters of the Hammerite Classic Thunder Saloons…overall a good day at the races.
