Greenwood Cup & Mike Wilson Hillclimb

Last weekend (19th & 20th September) saw the last 2 rounds of the Harewood Speed Hillclimb Championship and the Greenwood Cup and Mike Wilson Memorial Hillclimb trophies. Regular Harwood ‘hillclimbers’ could, as always, be found in the paddock but they were also joined by entries from MG and Alpine Renault car clubs.

On Saturday the sun came out, but so did the red flags which meant that only the practice runs were completed before the lunch break with plenty of drivers pushing hard resulting in ‘offs’.

The timed runs got going after lunch and by mid afternoon the first run was still taking place again due to yet more red flags – one incident included a car hitting the farmhouse, wheels were off so a flat bed recovery was required to move it back to the paddock, fortunately the driver was unhurt.

The fog rolled in Sunday morning so the start was delayed an hour for safety – you were unable to see halfway up the hill, fortunately the sun broke through finally clearing the mist and runs got underway. A few more recoveries and red flags persisted during the practice runs but the timed runs got firmly underway after lunch, managing three timed runs for those cars and drivers still up to it and in one piece.

The 2015 Harewood Hillclimb Championship was won by Tracey Taylor-West and the Harewood FTD Championship winner was John Chacksfield, this was the end of a very enjoyable season at Harewood Hillclimb, see you next year.
