HSCC returns to Brands Hatch…

The HSCC made its annual autumn trip to the Brands Hatch Indy circuit for 2 days of historic racing action last weekend (26 & 27 September). However, this year there was an old meets new twist as the club were joined by the BRDC Formula 4 Championship.

Close finishes were the order of the day as the Historic Formula Ford 1600 race concluded with Max Bartell taking the win from Richard Mitchell by a mere 43-thousandths of a second. Sundays race was just as entertaining with Rob Wainwright over the line first from Bartell by seven-tenths of a second with Richard Mitchell hammering home in 3rd.

The Historic Formula Ford 2000 Championship saw Reynard SF77 pilot Benn Simms secure a double win with Tom Smith, Andrew Park and Callum Grant all taking a place on the podium.

Double wins were also part of Mark Charteris’s weekend in the HSCC Classic Clubmans Championship, not an easy job with Ray Mallock in hot pursuit in both races, Clive Wood was top Class B man in both his races too.

Morgan Plus 8 racer Kevin Kivlochan was on the top step in the Road Sports Championship having pulled out a lead on the chasing Lotuses of Roger Waite and Frazer Gibney. In the 70s Road Sports Championship, Jim Dean in his Europa was being pushed very hard by Peter Shaw’s TVR Tuscan who ended up being eight-tenths of a second behind as they went over the line.

In the Classic Formula 3 Championship race, Max Bartell just clinched a win over Gaius Ghinn who was only 17-hundredths of a second behind and was back on the podium for his 3rd win at the meeting in the second Classic F3 race Ghinn this time a second behind.  Also sharing the grid with the F3’s, Andy Jarvis headed the Classic Racing Car racers.

Mustang muscle ruled supreme in the hands of  Warren Briggs who saw off the hard charging Cortina of Tim Davies in both ByBox Historic Touring Car Championship races again super close finishes.

Double wins for Stuart Roach in the front-engined Historic Formula Junior races completed the weekend’s meeting in the mellow Kent autumnal sunshine, full results can be found here.
