2016 BWRDC GOLDSTARS Winners

The British Women Racing Drivers Club announced their 2016 BWRDC GoldStar winners at the NEC last weekend with Sara Williams awarded the BWRDC GoldStars Elite and Elen Worthington winning the BWRDC GoldStars Club title.

The drivers were presented their awards on the Dare to be Different stand at the ASI show, by former F1 test driver and DTM racer Susie Wolff.  Dare to be Different is new initiative launched by Susie Wolff aimed at working with and encouraging women in motorsport and the campagin will be travelling the UK this year meeting racers and offering support. Rachel Brookes, Sky F1 reporter and Dare to be Different ambassador compared the award ceremony.

Rally driver Sara Williams started co-driving for her father before taking the driving seat 2 years later, competing in both a Rover 214 and a Type R Civic. Starting with tarmac rallies, Sara soon moved onto competing on gravel in a Subaru Impreza. 2013 saw Sara claim her first outright rally win and again in 2015 wining the Red Kite Rally and the Red Dragon Rally – a win taken be a mere 1m 21 seconds. Other successes included 2nd overall and 1st in class in last seasons BTRDA Mixed Surface Championship and it was because of this success that Sara was chosen by the FIA to attend the Sealine Cross Country Rally programme in Qatar.

Sprint and hillclimb driver and Elen Worthington only started competing in 2010, campaigning in the Welsh Sprint & Hill Climb Championship, BARC Speed Championship, the HSA Speed Championship and the ASWMC Sprint Championship. Driving her Lotus Elise, Elen took 6 class wins and track records with the Liverpool Motor Club and HSA track record at Aintree and finished 2nd in the  2015 SBD BARC Ladies Championship.
