FunCup Season starts at Brands…

The FunCup 2016 season started at the weekend as teams arrived at Brands Hatch for the opening 4Hr race…

Let me tell a little about these race cars, they are a spaced frame single seater (driver sits in the centre of the car just like a DTM touring car) powered by an 1800cc, 130 BHP (sealed) engine. They are not VW Beetles, just silhouettes but these are are proper purpose built endurance race cars and out on track, the competition is fierce and the racing close.

Round 1 of the FunCup year got off to a great start at the famous Brands Hatch Indy circuit, a wet 55 minute qualifying session start, which did not go without a little drama. About half way through qualifying, car #262 of Track Focused entered Paddock Hill, left the safety of tarmac, to sample the gravel ending up on it’s roof – fortunately driver and car made it back to the paddock with just a few bruises.

Conditions improved by race start encouraging the usual fast paced, door handle to door handle racing which can always be expected from this championship – all in all it made for a good days racing.

After 238 laps the win went to car #98 of the Track Torque Racing Team piloted by Chris Hart and Henry Dawes with Paul Abraham, Tom Mills and Paul Turner of Eco Racing (#209) and Zoe and Guy Wenham and Harry Mailer of Apollo Motorsport (#220) coming home 2nd and 3rd.
