RallyX – Ekstrom Beats Solberg at Lydden

RallyX returned to Lydden Hill last weekend for the FIA British round with Audi driver Mattias Ekstrom continued to be the man to beat although the competition was fierce with reigning World Champion Petter Holberg in his Citroen DS3.

In qualifying the Solberg and Andreas Bakkerud set the pace and in the final heat Ekstrom suffered a puncture forcing the Swedish driver back to 18th position on the time sheets. This meant that for the semi’s, taking into count his other times over the day, he started 4th on the grid. Ekstrom drove his joker lap on the first lap and just managed to take the win from Bakkerud and with Solberg winning his semi it was all set for a showdown in the final.

In the final Ekstrom again drove his joker lap on the first lap after the start, Solberg taking his joker lap ensuring he came out in front of Timmy Hansen making it Ekstrom 1st, Holberg 2nd and Hansen 3rd.
