FunCup 6hr Snetterton 2016

26 cars and 72 drivers were on the grid for round three of FunCup’s 6 hour endurance race at Snetterton…

After the excitement levels of Brands Hatch and Oulton Park, Norfolk was not going to be any different. The day started with the usual 50 minute qualifying period, with drivers and teams battling hard to secure the optimal grid positions needed to ensure a good start for this 6 hr race. The FunCup is certainly one of the most competitive endurance championships in the UK, cars are equal using sealed 2.0ltr VW power plants bolted into a space frame and body based on a Volkswagen Beetle. You have a good mix of ‘pro’ and amateur drivers and the standards of driving are always high with drivers getting the chance to spend plenty of time out out on circuit –  far more than the often short time given when sprint racing.

This meeting at Snetterton (11th June) was to be a 6hr endurance battle, the longest on our shores in UK club/endurance racing, of course weather conditions always have a part to play and last weekend it was a seriously varied affair with both rain, sun and monsoon storms all being thrown into the mix.

Qualifying took place in rather cloudy but dry and humid conditions, however during the race drivers then had to deal with heavy rain and a thunder storms, the conditions out on the Norfolk track certainly caught some out making the racing exciting edge of your seat type stuff.

In the end it was success for the JPR UVio Team piloted by Graham Roberts and Farquini Deott…

Full results and times can be seen here.

Next up for the FunCup  Championship is the annual trip to Spa for the 25 hour race where UK teams are joined on the grid by the European FunCup Championship teams.

Many thanks to Snetterton & MSV.
