GT Cup at MSVR Oulton Park

A pair of races for the GT Cup headlined a busy MSVR meeting at Oulton Park last Saturday (23rd July), however a first lap incident caused the first race to be cancelled, leaving just the 50-minute pit stop race to be run on the day.

IMG_5187Jordan Witt led the field away from the start of race 1 in his Bentley Continental GT3, with John Dhillon’s Ferrari and the Lamborghini Huracan of Darren Nelson following closely. Dhillon and Nelson then made contact at Old Hall, with carbon fibre flying from the front of the Lamborghini. Further down The Avenue, Nelson turned hard right across the track into the barriers, and in the process collected the Lotus Evora GTE of Kevin Riley and the BMW M3 of Tom Webb. The race was red flagged while the marshals attempted to clear the track, however with the cleanup taking over half an hour the decision was taken to abandon the race.

Race two was utterly dominated by Jordan Witt, who took victory by over 30 seconds from the Ferrari 458 of John Dhillon and Aaron Scott. The repaired Webb family BMW M3 GTR took third overall and victory in the GTB class. The GTA class win was taken by the Porsche 996 Cup car of Colin Broster and Marcus Clutton after a storming drive from 18th on the grid to finish 8th at the chequered flag. The GTC class victory went to Paul Bailey and Andy Schulz in the Horsepower Racing Ferrari 458 Challenge.

The MSV Trackday Championship race was won by Mark Flower in his BMW M3. Victory in the MSV Trackday Trophy went to James Clink in his Renaultsport Clio, despite the car visiting the Cascades gravel trap on the opening lap of the 45 minute race. William Davison took a brace of victories in the closely contested Production BMW Championship, while Stuart Waite took two very close wins in the Toyo Tyres Racing Saloons series.
