Summer Championship Hillclimb at Harewood

Harewood Hillclimb played host for round seven of Harewood Speed Hillclimb Championship, the Summer Championship Hillclimb meeting on last weekend (Sunday 28th August)…

Along with regular competitors from Harewood Championship Hillclimb the meeting also included two and three wheeled competitors – bikes along with sidecars. This included race bikes, road bikes and supermotos and interestingly this is the only event we see two and three wheeled competitors on the famous hill.

With heavy overnight rain, the track was still damp during the first practice run, which made for an unpredictable start for riders and passengers as it was the bikes first up….most took it very, very carefully seeking out the grip. Even the second practice run, still had damp in places but all was safely completed before the lunch break. The day remained overcast but by the time competitors got started in the afternoon the track had finally dried out and the all got their heads down for the required three timed runs.

The final championship meetings, round eight and nine take place over the weekend of the 17th and 18th September when the new Harewood Speed Hillclimb Champion will be crowned. Currently only 1.05 points separate Sarah Bosworth in her Lotus Elise (1st) and Deryck Jones in his Peugeot 205 GTi (2nd) looks like it could be going down to the wire.

In the Fastest Time of the Day Championship (FTD) John Chacksfield driving his OMS 28 is 4 points clear of Ben Lovell in his OMS SC4CF.
