Brooklands American Day 2016

Ok so the race season is still going strong and again its going to be a late finish with many championships running into November, however when there is a gathering of interesting kit P42 likes to take a look…

American Day took place at Brooklands last Sunday (4th September), the UK’s and possibly the worlds 1st race circuit famous for its high speed banked circuit. Today its a slightly different place to when it was in its prime in the roaring 1920’s, some of the original banking remains but a lot of the old circuit has been sold off over the years and has been subsequently re-developed with the edition of office, industrial and retail parks – you can still see some of the old banking next to Tescos… However bang in the middle of the old track is the Brooklands Museum along with some of the original buildings and even Malcolm Campbell’s workshop that was built in the 1920’s. The museum puts on some good gatherings over the year that include the Double 12 Hill Climb which is a well attended competition. All funds raised from these events go back to support the museum and its great to have some motorsport back at its original home – if you fancy a day out pay a visit and look around at some of the UK’s very first race cars and bikes which are on display there.

Last weekends meet was all about pre’85 American metal and a fine display was to be found, Mopar; Cuda’s and Plymouths, Chevy Bel Airs plus an array of vintage pick up trucks; 3100’s, F1’s and El Camino’s and Rancheros there was plenty to enjoy for fans of American muscle. Enjoy the gallery.
