Santa Pod Flames & Thunder

Santa Pod ran their Flame & Thunder event last weekend and I popped along on Saturday for a look, note to self take ear protection next time…

Absolutely brill day with some fantastic machines literally burning up the track, jet dragsters, 300mph nitro drinking top fuel racers and all sorts of other cars and bikes were fired down the strip. Stunning October weather helped the track stay open all day and crowds got the chance to enjoy a huge mix of racers from classic muscle cars to the very latest UK FWD cars, big wheelies were clearly the thing of the day.

Some serious times were set, notably Chez Williams driving Andy Morgans Splitscreen Panel Van to a new world record of 11.24 at 112mph – not bad for a camper van ! Robin Read also put in a couple of serious runs in his intros Daimler powered dragster collecting a best time of 6.84 and 192mph. A beast of a thing. Eric Teboul is well worth mention, the crowd were all utterly staggered as he made a couple of runs on his rocket bike, setting a best time of the day of 5.23 seconds at over 250mph…

Elsewhere, tons to see and do, stunt shows, drifting, monster trucks, live music, show and shine and fireworks. A cracking day out.
