McWilliams leads the charge at International Island Classic 2017

Ex-GP rider and Ulster racer Jeremy McWilliams and fellow teammates held off a hard charging Aussie team at the weekend retain the prestigious International Challenge trophy at the 24th AMCN Island Classic at the legendary Phillip Island GP circuit…

It was a 4 race battle with the last race showing the skills of Aussie, International Classic rookie, Alex Phillis (son of Robbie – former ASBK racer) on the Suzuki XR69 clinching the win from McWilliams on the Harris Yamaha and fellow Aussie Steve Martin on a Suzuki Katana. Jed Metcher on a Harris Honda and Shawn Giles on another Katana were in hot pursuit and helped add to the points but it was not enough to stop the ‘Poms taking victory for the 3rd year in a row. Veteran McWilliams securing the individual standings for the fourth time with multiple wins over the weekend and a lap record of 1:36.388.

Road racer Peter Hickman described the racing as ‘some of the hardest and toughest you will find anywhere’…
