Truck’s & Legends at Brands

The British Truck Racing Championship kicked off at Brands Hatch over the weekend (25-26/03/2017) on the famous Indy Circuit with a host of other championships that included, MRF Legends Cars Championship, Avon Tyres Intermarque Championship, Quaife Tin Tops & Saloons, Kumho Tyres BMW Championships and not forgetting the fast and furious Pickup’s…

Spring weather greeted teams and drivers, not a drop of the wet stuff fell on the circuit over the weekend and slough the wind picked up on the Sunday conditions were perfect for a fine weekend of racing and of on track entertainment.

In Saturday’s first truck race, driver Stuart Oliver secured the first Class A win, and doing so from a pole position start, meanwhile after a troublesome qualifying, reigning champion Ryan Smith ended up at the back of the grid. However this did not deter Smith who fought tooth and nail all the way up into second place but the time the flag came down. In Class B the first win went to Mika Makinen with rival John Powell taking the second win in the following Class B race of the day.

The MRF Legends Cars Championship drivers had a busy weekend with 3 races on Saturday giving us their usual brand of bumper to bumper entertainment. Guy Fastres won race one, with the second and third Legends races were shared between Stephen Whitelegg and John Mickell.

Sundays trucks got underway with a five race programme, three in Class A and two in Class B. Shane Brereton taking the first win in Class A and Ryan Smith and Mat Summerfield in the second and third Class A races of the day. In Class B, both the days wins went to Saturday winner Mika Makinen.

The Legends were back out on track on Sunday, with a further three races on the cards for their double header weekend, always exciting to watch, first honours went to Stephen Whitlegg. John Mickell went on to take the top spot in the remaining two Legends Championship races of the day.

It goes without saying that when the trucks come to town the show is pure entertainment especially when it is at Brands, my favourite and in my opinion one of the best UK circuits, it never fails to impress. The trucks return to Kent’s finest in November (4th & 5th) when there will not only be the smells and sounds of V8 HGV’s but a fire works display as well. Hope to see you there.
