NG Road Racing Club Oulton Park

The NG Road Racing Club made their annual trip north to Oulton Park last weekend (8th April), bringing a packed twenty race programme to the Cheshire circuit. The circuit was bathed in spring sunshine all day ensuring perfect conditions for a great day of racing…

Topping the bill were a pair of races for the ACU National 250GP championship, for 250cc two stroke Grand Prix machines. In the day’s opening sprint race, Phil Atkinson took a lights to flag victory onboard his Yamaha TZ250, crossing the line just 0.218 seconds ahead of the similar bike of Ant Hodson. In the second race of the day, Atkinson and Hodson again took off at the head of the field, with Atkinson leading the first six laps from the orange Yamaha of Hodson. However, a moment lapping a backmarker gave Hodson his chance, and he took the lead on lap seven. The pair then fought hard for the win as they lapped the tail end of the field, with Hodson eventually taking victory by just 0.099 seconds.

Kawasaki ZX-10R mounted Josh Day proved to be the class of the Phoenix Open field, qualifying 2.7 seconds quicker than his closest challenger. In the race Day simply rode away from the rest of the field, eventually finishing 16 seconds ahead of BMW rider Chris Barnes. Not content with taking victory in one series, Day also entered the Powerbikes race, and put in a similar performance, winning the six lap race by 14 seconds from John Ravenscroft.

Other winners from a packed day of racing included Sam Middlemas, who took a commanding victory in the Sound Of Thunder race aboard his Ducati 899 Panigale, Matt Truelove, who took a hard fought 600cc victory from Daniel Booth, and Paul Wardell who took victory in the Mini Twins race.
