Classic & Vintage and Jim Thomson Trophy at Harewood

The Vintage Sports Car Club (VSCC) was in Yorkshire as the British Automobile Racing Club (BARC) once again played host for the annual Classic & Vintage meeting held at Harewood Speed Hillclimb on Saturday 3rd June.

The day’s competition was for Pre-war Racing and Sports Cars as part of the VSCC Speed Championship and the event had a full entry list of 150 cars. Two practice runs and two timed runs were all completed in warm and sunny conditions.

Sunday’s event was for the Jim Thomson Trophy, which also included competitors from Morgan Cars, Scimitar & Sabre Owners Club, TR Register Cars and Aston Martin Owners Club plus regulars from the Harewood Championship, the paddock filling up this time with more modern machinery and kit that has to be said is much easier to drive fast up the famous hill.

Sarah Bosworth in her Lotus Elise is still leading the Harewood Championship despite having an engine mount break, which following a bit of attention with a MIG, welded up off site by another competitor, kept her in the game especially as only 1.04 points separate from nearest rivals Jack Pearson, Steven Darley and Tracey Taylor West in another Lotus Elise.

John Chacksfield is still leading the charge in the Harewood FTD Championship with a healthy 11 point lead over Ed Carter, only two points separating him from Ben Lovell and Steve Owen both on 17 and Dave Banner on 16.

Many thanks to BARC Yorkshire Centre at Harewood Hill and not forgetting all the marshals and rescue teams.
