MSVR Car Club Championships

Brands Hatch hosted MSVR’s final event of 2017 which included The Formula Vee Festival, The Victor Meldrew Trophy and a first trip to Brands Hatch and new for 2017 the SsangYong Racing Challenge…

Also competing over the weekend were the MSVR All Comers races, which included a separate event for single seaters and the legendary Race Of Champions which unfortunately had a small grid however the excitement levels remained high during the race by the battling front runners, throughly entertaining.

2017 was the 10th anniversary of the Formula Vee Festival and this year celebrating it 50th year running in the UK. These racers first appeared in the good ‘ole USA by a VW dealer in 1959, ultimately arriving on these shores of the UK in 1967. Powered by the flat 4 VW Beetle motors, the famous series is today run by the 750 Motor Club.

The Victor Meldrew Trophy, like the Vee Festival was also celebrating it’s 10 anniversary, and a grid full of saloon cars from years past all piloted by ‘grumpy old race drivers’ – this race has its own distinctive style and racing rules even I struggled to keep up with it.

Finally, new to 2017 we had the one make series SsangYong Racing Challenge. Finishing it’s first year off at Brands Hatch after a 6 race calendar the racing was close throughout the field, these unusual racers are SsangYong Musso pick-up trucks with the same running gear, rear wheel drive all powered by a 208 PS diesel engine.

Overall the weekend was enjoyable, the weather was good over the 2 days, a little on the chilly side but the racing in all classes was enjoyable and fun, a good way for MSVR to end it’s year.
