NEC Classic Car Show 2017

As the nights draw in, and race circuits wind down for the year the Classic Motor Show offered one last chance to drool over some of the most expensive and sought after two and four-wheeled machinery created…

A firm favourite in the calendar, this three day classic car show sees 71,000 attendees converging on the NEC in Birmingham. Walking past numerous Ferrari’s, Porsche’s, Maserati’s, Jaguar’s and many many others leaves one in awe of those lucky owners who get the chance to enjoy them behind the wheel. 257 clubs bringing 2,500 immaculately turned out cars and bikes makes for an amazing atmosphere and spectacle and filled many halls at the famous exhibition venue.

The show also serves as a great place to meet like-minded enthusiasts, to discuss current builds/ on going projects and acquire the seemingly never ending lists of what’s “needed” for their pride and joy – I certainly have my own list of what I “need” for my four-wheeled money sink… The auto-jumble remains a great place to find the random, rare and funky parts needed to finish a restoration whilst trade stands showed off the tools along with some of the latest tech for those with bigger budgets.

A huge range of classic and contemporary cars were going under the hammer across the weekend – I personally was very drawn to the “Azzuro (Royal Blue)” Ferrari Dino 246, an original factory colour, unfortunately £350,000 was a little over my budget. The Silverstone Auctions  sale made a handsome £3.6 million with various legendary cars changing hands, including a 1996 Lamborghini Diablo selling for a cool £281,000 – I rmember when they were £30k!

The 2018 Lancaster Insurance Classic Motor Show, with Discovery, will be held from 9-11 November 2018, visit www.necclassicmotorshow.com.
