MSA British Rallycross Championship. Round 3. Croft Circuit.

The Toyo Tires MSA British Rallycross Championship visited Croft Circuit on Sunday 6th May, for round three of the 2018 season. This is the first of two visits this year to the North Yorkshire circuit…

Round three got under way with high temperatures expected proving to be some of the hottest ever for the May Bank Holiday since records began. The organisers kept the water tanker busy, laying gallons of water on the gravel part of the track, to try and keep the clouds of dust down.

The main attraction is always the Supercar class but also taking part were classes for the Supernational, Super 16’s, BMW Minis, RX150, Retro Rallycross, Swift Sport and Junior Swift Rallycross. Each of the classes would have three qualifying heats, with a maximum of eight cars per race, followed by a semi final, with the top four competitors from each semi final going though to make an eight car final within each of the classes.

Ollie O’Donovan won the re-run of the Supercar final after the first attempt was red flagged. Steve Hill driving his Mitsubishi Lancer Evo X and five times British Rallycross Champion Julian Godfrey, driving the Spencer Sport Mitsubishi Mirage collided, unfortunately this sent Julian into a series of fiery rolls, ending on his roof. Steve with damage to the front right, stopped and ran over to the Championship leader to help him out of his wrecked car. The Marshals attended to the fire and Julian thankfully walked away unharmed.

Three times British Rally Champion and stunt driver (latest James Bond films) Mark Higgins, was second driving one of the Albatec Racing Peugeot 208’s. Mark now leads the British Rallycross Championship in his maiden Rallycross season.  Albatec Racing team boss Andy Scott was third making it a double podium for his team.

Next up is a double header at Pembrey (Weekend of 23rd and 24th June).

All the class results from this meeting can be found here.

Many thanks to BARC, Croft Circuit and not forgetting all the marshals and rescue teams.
