NORASPORT BRITISH SUPERMOTO CHAMPIONSHIP R3

This bank holiday weekend 26th/27th May Lydden Hill saw the return of the Norasport British Supermoto Championship for round 3….

Supermoto races are commonly held on road racing or medium-sized go-kart tracks with an off-road section in the infield. Modifications to the Lydden circuit meant riders had to compete on tarmac,dirt and gravel while dealing with ramps and jumps.

Known as pit bikes these small bikes were originally used for riding around the pit or staging areas but since the early 2000’s pit bike racing has grown massively in the USA and UK.

Also there was on track action from the Superlites and the Kent Youth Trial Club Championship.

Superlite race cars are single seater space frame machines previously known as Drakart and these lightweight cars have a very high power to weight ratio and being very close to the ground you get a great sensation of speed.

There are two categories in the Superlites, the 600cc and the open class (900cc) the difference being the engine and transmission. The open class machine has a Honda CBR900 Fireblade engine to power it with a very rapid 0-60mph making it comparable to your Ferraris or Lamborghinis – I know which one I’d have more fun in…
