Yorkshire Speed and Montague Burton Trophy’s at Harewood Hillclimb.

The British Automobile Racing Club (BARC), Yorkshire Centre held two events over the weekend of 4th and 5th August for the Yorkshire Speed and Montague Burton Trophy’s at Harewood Hillclimb.

Saturday event had two practice runs followed by three-time runs for the Yorkshire Speed Trophy. The sun was out and with high temperatures both on and off track a number of class records were beaten during the timed runs.

Sunday’s meeting was for the Montague Burton Trophy after the two practice runs we had three timed runs for most competitors. With almost clear blue skies, it was hot by mid-morning, in the mid-twenties making for similar track conductions to Saturday. Would competitors set more class records on the recently laid new track surface as Saturday?

Joining the regulars from the Harewood Speed Hillclimb Championship this time were competitors from Paul Matty Championship (for Lotus road and race cars), Austin Healey Speed Championship, Lotus 7 Caterham’s, and Bugatti Classic Car Club making for a full entry of 150 cars.

In the Harewood Speed Hillclimb Championship after six rounds, Deryck Jones (Peugeot 205 GTi) leads 2017 Champion Sarah Bosworth (Lotus Elise) with Jonathan Mounsey (Mitsubishi Evo 9) moving up to third.

Dave Banner (OMS 28) takes over the lead of the Harewood FTD Championship from Ed Carter (Force PT) and David Tatham (OMS Hornet) in third.

Next meeting is on Saturday 25th August for a non-championship meeting. This is an extra meeting to replace the Spring National which was cancelled back in April due to the waterlogged Paddock and car parks. Both Championships return on Sunday 26th August.

Many thanks to BARC Yorkshire centre at Harewood Hill and not forgetting all the marshals and rescue teams.
