Harewood Summer Non Championship & Summer Championship Hillclimb

The British Automobile Racing Club (BARC), Yorkshire Centre held two events over the weekend of the 25th and 26th August…

The first event on the Saturday was a non Championship event, which was in part to make up for the first round having to be cancelled due to water logged car parks and for the regulars wishing to try out any set-up changes to the competition cars without effecting championship hopes. After the normal two practice runs the BARC Yorkshire Centre allowed as many timed runs as possible making it fantastic value for those competitors that had entered and in fact many managed eight timed runs.

Round seven of the Harewood Speed Hillclimb Championship would take place on the Sunday, with grey clouds and the rain forecast for around 11 o’clock, unfortunately the rain arrived much earlier making second practice a very damp affair and after this dry weather slippery too – so wets would be required for those lucky to be able to select them (depending on the class). Due to the number of competitors and the track conditions the timed runs did not start until after the lunch break and it was still raining heavily when they got underway. First out were the bikes and also some with side cars (six different classes) followed by the rest of the four wheeled competitors.

In the Harewood Speed Hillclimb Championship after round seven, Deryck Jones (Peugeot 205 GTi) still leads 2017 Champion Sarah Bosworth (Lotus Elise) with Jonathan Mounsey (Mitsubishi Evo 6) in third and Will Roberts (Renault Sport Clio Cup) in fourth.

Though Dave Banner (OMS 28) did not take part in the wet timed runs he still leads the Harewood FTD Championship by 5 points from David Tatham (OMS Hornet) with Ed Carter (Force PT) a further two points behind in third and who was not at the event.

Times for the Summer Non Championship event can be found here.

Results for the Harewood Championship after round seven can be found here.

Many thanks to BARC Yorkshire centre at Harewood Hill and not forgetting all the marshals and rescue teams.
