BTRDA Clubman’s Rallycross. Round 8.

Round eight of the 2018 BTRDA Clubman’s Rallycross Championship took place at Blyton Park Circuit on Sunday (14th October). The event was organised by the Mini Drivers Association (MDA)…

With a varied field of cars competing from the original British Leyland Mini to the new BMW Mini’s, the Junior categories driving Suzuki Swift’s to the hugely successful production 4×4 Subaru Impreza’s. All competing in several different categories and classes, ensuring the competition was fierce throughout all the races…

Just before practice down came the rain and it stayed all day, after the two practice runs the race heats got underway for all the different categories and classes. As more and more races were completed the gravel sections soon turned into a mud bath, meaning the leader of any of the races did have an advantage of been able to just about see out of the windscreen, while the competitors in the chasing packs had to deal with all the mud been kicked up, wipers going flat out but basically driving on their wits.

With large amounts of water collecting in places on the tarmac section of the track, conditions were changing after every single lap and this did catch out a couple of drivers, causing them to aquaplane and spin off in all directions.

Dan Beattie driving a Subaru Impreza (car number 113) won the Albatec Racing Production 4×4 final and overall BTRDA Championship leader Luke Constantine driving a Suzuki Swift in the Junior category (car number 107) won the Junior A Final.

The Championship’s final round of the 2018 season takes place at Croft Circuit on Saturday 27th October.

Many thanks to Linda Longmate of the Mini Drivers Association, BTRDA, Blyton Park Circuit and of course, not forgetting all the marshals and rescue teams without which the event could not take place.
