Britcar Into The Night/BARC National Championship

The final curtain came down as Brands Hatch wrapped up the 2018 season last weekend (17-18/11/2018) with the traditional season closer, Britcar Into The Night, along with six other championship campaigns from the British Automobile Racing Club.

The first outing for the Britcar was a 50 minute sprint Into The Darkness Race which took place on Saturday with  Alan Purbrick and David Brise in the Saker RAPX narrowly beating the FF Corse Ferrari 458 GT3 of  David Masson and Ross Wylie to the chequered flag by 0.925 of a second.

Sundays longer 2 hour Into The Darkness Race, Ross Wylie and David Mason this time round took the honours in the sprint category. The Purbrick/Brise pairing finishing 2nd. In the Dunlop Endurance Championship, the Team Hard Ginetta G55 GT4 piloted by Simon Rudd and Tom Barley went on to win the Endurance category convincingly, beating the Seat Leon Cupra of Ashley Woodman and Martin Byford to the flag by 1 lap.

In the Ginetta Junior Winter Championship, Ruben del Sarte took the win during Saturdays first Ginetta outing but on Sunday James Hedley blew away the competition, chalking up a double win. Hedley also lifted the Winter Championship Trophy in what can only be described as a ‘roller coaster ride of a weekend’ with many incidents and red flags.

James Hedley Double Race Winner & Winter Series Champion

The Dunlop Mini Se7en & Mini Miglia, Rupert Deeth stormed to victory in all three of the weekends races while in the Scrapco/Avon Tyres Intermarque Championship the podiums where shared by Chris Brockenhurst and Steve Burrows.

Wayne Rockett and Steve Kite ended their 2018 season with wins during the Carbon8 Hyundai Coupe Cup and in the Quaife Cannon Tin Tops Championship, Alfie Brooker driving the Vauxhall Astra VXR and Kamran Tunio in the Honda Civic both signed out with a win apiece.

Rod Birley was back to winning ways in his beautifully turned out Ford Escort WRC, taking both wins during the weekends Quaife Modified Saloon Car Championship races.

It was a fitting end to the 2018 season and I for one will sign out having enjoyed every moment of it. Now for some well earned lay ins to rest this tired old mind and body, to freshen up for what I’m sure will be a just as exciting 2019. Bye for now.

Many thanks to Tom Arron and Colin Mann at MSV for their support.
