MDA & BTRDA RallyX at Blyton Park

Blyton Park circuit hosted round two of the 2019 MDA Rallycross Championship and round four of the BTRDA Clubman’s Rallycross Championship on Sunday 30th June 2019. The event was organised by the Minicross Drivers Association (MDA)…

The track was very dry despite the rain during the week leading up to the event, keeping the organisers busy watering the gravel sections of the track after practice and throughout day to try to keep some of the dust down. The weekend weather had a mix of sunshine and cloud and a breeze but remained dry…

Race leaders enjoyed clear vision, with the chasing pack having to work their way through great clouds of dust and mud. The heats would be over four laps while each of the finals would be over five laps and with approximately 56 cars entered in five main categories, including a couple of classic British Leyland Mini’s and including modern four wheel drive Subaru Impreza’s. The production class category proved the largest, with cars from many different manufacturers but the favourites included the usual mix of Saxos, C2′ Citroens and Corsas all battling hard through the categories and heats.

The BTRDA championsips offers something for everyone, including a category for just for the youngsters, the Junior category – last years overall champion Luke Constantine (Suzuki Swift. Car number 1) being the man to beat. Suzuki Swift’s dominate this category, but over the last couple of years has seen some other different cars entered notably Vauxhall Corsa’s and Nissan Micra’s both of which are starting to be competitive.

The MDA Rallycross Championship third and final round takes place at Blyton Park Circuit on 6th October. While the BTRDA Rallycross Championship heads to Pembrey for rounds five and six, over the weekend of 10th and 11th August. The eight round Championship then has visits to Lydden Hill, the home of Rallycross,  before the final round at Knockhill in Scotland in October.

Full results can be found here.

Many thanks to Linda Longmate of the Mini Drivers Association, BTRDA, Blyton Park Circuit and of course, not forgetting all the marshals and rescue teams without which the event could not take place.
