Harewood Hill Meeting

The British Automobile Racing Club (BARC), Yorkshire Centre welcomed competitors from the Porsche Club GB Hillclimb Championship and the second visit of the year for the Motorsport UK British Championship Hillclimb for rounds fifteen and sixteen.

Only the two Practice runs had been completed before the lunch break on Saturday, due to a larger number of cars going off at different locations of the famous track. The resulting red flags, kept both the Marshals and the recovery teams busy sweeping up the gravel and picking up the debris. The afternoon proved much the same meaning only two timed runs were completed.

In the Harewood Speed Hillclimb Championship, 2018 Champion Deryck Jones (Peugeot 205 Gti car no.44) leads from Kieran O’Brien (Nissan 305Z car no 60) with Jonathan Mounsey (Mitsubishi Evo VI car no.66) moving up into third.

Harewood Championship results can be found here.

In the Harewood FTD Championship Ben Tranter (OMS 2000M car no 122) leads from Ed Carter (Force PT car no 117) with Robert Spedding dropping down to third (OMS 2000M car no 822).

Sunday and drivers from the Motorsport UK British Championship Hillclimb returned to the Yorkshire hill after a days competition at Barbon Manor. The line-up was completed with several drivers competing in the Harewood Hillclimb Championship (not a round for this Championship) and again the competitors from the Porsche Club GB competing in the Petro-Canada Lubricants Porsche Club Championship with Pirelli.

Sunday morning the sun was out and two Practice runs completed before the lunch break after a number of red flags due to drivers going off, the afternoon started to cool off but this did not stop some competitors setting ‘PB’s’ and Wallace Menzies, driving a Gould GR59 (car 3) setting a new hill record during round fifteen going on to beat the old record again in round sixteen.

The first of the timed runs got under way for round fifteen of the Motorsport UK British Championship Hillclimb, with the fastest twelve drivers, taking part in a run off for Championship points, though only the top ten get these precious championship points. After a ten minute break round sixteen of the British Championship then got underway, under the same format as round fifteen but under cooler and cloudier conditions.
