HSCC heads to Cadwell…

The Historic Sports Car Club heads to sunny Lincolnshire this weekend (Saturday/Sunday 21/22 June) to the spectacular Cadwell Park for the race meeting of the season…the Wolds Trophy.

Home of the famous ‘Mountain’, the circuit celebrates its 80th year this year and this weekends meeting promises a wide range of sports cars, touring cars and single-seaters from the late 1950s through to the early 1980s which should produce some great racing in some legendary cars.

This meeting will feature 22 races involves double-header rounds, including the annual Historic Formula 3 Championship, Justin Haler Trophy races. This championship is for the 1-litre F3 cars that were raced in the the late 1960s with the field competing for the trophy named in memory of the highly respected racing journalist (Autocar & Competition Car)

Interestingly some of the cars at this weekends meeting are stars of the big screen as they took part in the filming of Ron Howards movie ‘Rush’ as originally the greats of that period such as Hunt and ‘Super Swede’ Rocket Ronnie Peterson raced  1000cc F3’s around Cadwell back in the day.

The meeting promises to be door handle to door handle stuff and the ByBox Historic Touring cars is no exception with Lotus Cortinas, Mini Coopers, Mudstangs and Imps all going toe to toe. At the last meeting at Snetterton, the HSCC Historic Formula Ford Championship wowed the crowd with the FF’s of Simms & Mitchell crossing the line separated by a mere one-thousandth of a second and this round at Cadwell is again boasts a packed grid for this popular championship.

Other championships running this weekend include, the HSCC Historic Formula Ford 2000 Championship, HSCC 70s Road Sports Championship where previous champion Oliver Ford will go into battle with his Lotus Europa against an assortment of TVR’s. The HSCC Historic Road Sports Championship features legendary cars from the 1960’s where Morgans, Ginetta’s and Lotus 7’s will be all pushing hard for glory. The Millers Oils Formula Junior is also part of the busy programme, 9 races on Saturday and 13 on the Sunday, along with double headers for the HSCC Classic Racing Car Championship, the HSCC Classic Formula 3 Championship and the HSCC Classic Clubmans Championship it will be non stop action with a whiff of Castrol R.
