750 Motor Club Brands Hatch

The 750 Motor Club arrived at Brands in glorious conditions..

The contrast of weather at the minute is mad! From the first meeting being snowed off to this meeting at Brands being bathed in glorious sunshine. The Brands Hatch Indy circuit hosted no less then 320 competitors across the two days of action.

There were 11 Formulae that took part, including massive Locost entrants of 50 having being split into 3 groups, the same for the MR2 championship.

In the Locost races it was Ben Powney who enjoyed double victory in his orange Locost. The close slipstreaming racing, meant that the lead changed hands several times. Ben winning race 1 by 0.6sec from Jack Coveney then nearly 6 seconds from Ian Allee in the 2nd race. In the other group race Mark Burton emerged victorious by 3 thousands of a second from Martin West! In the RGB races Paul Smith started well in his Mittell, however the throttle stuck open resulting in a couple of spins and retirement. This let Billy Albone through to take victory in race 1, in race two it was Mittells newest driver Chippy Wesemael who took the lead. It took Billy Albone until lap 12 to pass Chippy as he developed problems aboard the Mittell. He went on to finish 3rd behind team mate Paul Smith.

The Hot Hatch was much anticipated with Ben Rushworth having cured the handling problems that plagued his season last year, claiming Pole by 2 seconds from Alistair Camp. The first race Ben built a lead of 7 seconds until the red flags came out due to a 3 car pile up at clearways. Upon the restart Ben couldn’t start his car resulting in a pit lane start. This let Alistair Camp and Steve Sawley fight for victory. Rodren Vella claimed class B honours and Mac McCarthy won class C honours in a great battle with Michael Winkworth. In the second race Ben didn’t make the start, Alistair Camp and Steve again fought for victory until on lap 7 Steve retired the car, this promoted Martin Ward up to 2nd in class A. Jon Peerless claiming class B honours. Class c honours went to Michael Winkworth in only his 2nd car race.
