Ginetta…a Flat Out Weekend

Ginetta have a busy weekend ahead of them with a trio of appearances at motoring events across Europe. Travelling to Silverstone for the International GT Open , Spa Francorchamps for a bumper round of the Ginetta GT5 Challenge UK and Goodwood Festival Of Speed to showcase the Ginetta G60.

Team LNT will be fielding their Ginetta G55 GT3 car as a one-off entry into the British round of the International GT Open as the series visits Silverstone for the first time this weekend, with Ginetta Chairman Lawrence Tomlinson and factory driver Mike Simpson at the helm.

Widely considered as the best platform in Europe for GT2 and GT3 pro-am racing; the ultra-competitive series is sure to welcome a number of British GT regulars to the grid for the pair of races; a 70 minute race on Saturday, followed by a 50 minute race on Sunday.

Lawrence Tomlinson said; “The Ginetta G55 GT3 car has already proven itself as a GT contender within the UK, moving forwards, the International GT Open is a great platform to showcase the might of the Ginetta G55 GT3 car alongside a number of world-class marques on a more global scale.”

Elsewhere and taking a one-off break from supporting the British GT championship, the Protyre Motorsport Ginetta GT5 Challenge is set to travel to Spa Francorchamps circuit in Belgium, in support of one of the longest continuous motor race in the world; the 25 Hours at Spa on 12/13 July.

Having proven a popular ‘away’ race in 2009, the British GT5 contingent will enjoy three, 20 minute races at the home of the Belgian Grand Prix, where they will also be joined by drivers from the Ginetta GT5 Challenge Sweden – resulting in a bumper 35-car grid.

The Ginetta GT5 Challenge UK and Sweden will run in the same race but will score points separately as they battle for their individual honours. However, a prize will be on offer for all entered drivers to win the coveted title of ‘European Ginetta GT5 Challenge Champion’, which will be awarded to the driver who scores the most points over the weekend.

Ginetta Championships Manager Max Gregory said; “After the success of the 2009 event, it is nice to be going back to Spa Francorchamps with our new generation of drivers. It offers the chance to race at an iconic circuit for the same price as a UK race, as well as giving them the opportunity to race against drivers from the Ginetta GT5 Challenge Sweden, which will undoubtedly add an element of excitement and rivalry for fans. The Swedish Championship has just introduced the G40 into their Championship, as we did in 2011, so it will be interesting to see how they fair against the Brits.”

Back in the UK, Ginetta’s first G60 owner Vicci Schultz, and her partner, British Touring Car ace Tony Hughes will be making an appearance at the Goodwood Festival Of Speed with their sleek, white model.

Set to take part in the coveted Supercar run up Goodwood Hill on all of the public days Tony and Vicci, who recently showed the car at Cholmondeley Pageant Of Power said; “As the owners of the only customer G60 in the country, it’s a real pleasure to be able to take our car to events across the UK and show it to the public. So make sure you come along and say hello!”

James Webb will also be at the event with his Ginetta Junior car which he got for Christmas last year, along with sponsors Ultimo GT and Carcliq on stand 192. Whilst the youngster hasn’t raced in the BTCC-supporting Championship as yet, he is looking to enter some rounds towards the end of 2013, ready for a full-season challenge in 2014.
