Marquez, the title leader sets the pace at the US MotoGP.

Not a bad start the rookie considering its his first time on track, 3rd fastest in the chilly Friday morning then fastest in the afternoon as the Californian sun made an appearance. Great showing by Stefan Bradl with Dovi grabbing 3rd ahead of a new confident Rossi and only 0.306s between these riders.

Cal Crutchlow’s 1m 22.757s morning best was bettered again after just eight minutes as he pushed super hard. Jorge Lorenzo and Dani Pedrosa are back but both carrying injuries and looking to retake control of the championship from the Spanish youngster. Jorge finished up 6th with Dani in 11th (only 1 second off Marquez!). More trackside news: Nicky Hayden confirms he is out of Ducati at the end of the season and rumour has it he is looking at WSBKs if he can’t find the ride he wants in GP. Nicky has worked his socks off for the Italian manufacturer and I think he will be missed. Filling the seat; well who wants it? Good luck to Nicky – LCR, Gresini? Paddock42 would love to see him in a WSBK ride and I reckon he would be a strong contender and if he managed to win a title he would be the only man in history to win both WSBK and GP World titles.
