BARC Competitions Manager Retires

With over 23 years in the job, Dale Wells (62) will step down at the end of September 2013. Wells, who originally came from Leicestershire, was a founder member and Chairman of the BARC’s Midlands Centre, has held the full-time post at BARC’s Thruxton (Hampshire) headquarters since February 1990.

Starting as a marshal at Mallory Park way back in 1968, Wells graduated through the ranks to become a volunteer licensed MSA Clerk of the Course in the early 1980’s, eventually making it to the top level, ‘International A’ just after moving to Thruxton. Since then, he has acted as an International Clerk at nearly all the circuits in the UK, plus Mondello Park and Bishopscourt in Ireland, Croix-en-Ternois, Le Mans, Pau Ville and Magny Cours in France, Nurburgring and Lausitzring in Germany, Zolder and Spa Francorchamps in Belgium, Catalunya in Spain, Monza and Mugello in Italy, the Bucharest Street Circuit in Romania, Circuit Sakhir in Bahrain and the Dubai Autodrome.

Keen to keep his association with BARC and motorsport in retirement, Wells will in future continue to help oversee the BARC’s involvement at the Goodwood Festival of Speed and Goodwood Revival, where he has been Clerk of the Course for the last 10 – 15 years and will be seen at a number of other BARC events, where he will also continue acting in the same role. Wells is also a licensed ACU (Motorcycle) Clerk of the Course and a licensed MSA Steward.

A spokesman for BARC said, “Dale has been an integral part of the BARC and motorsport in general for many years and we are very glad to see that he will continue working with us as a Clerk of the Course in the foreseeable future.”

Many thanks to the British Automobile Racing Club for this news. Take a look at the P42 Championship Directory for more championship information on the club.
