750MC Birkett Relay Race – Mission Motorsport Confirm Entry

750MC Birkett Relay Race tackles Silverstone this weekend and the club are delighted to welcome Mission Motorsport to the 2013 event. As a registered Service charity, Mission Motorsport is the official provider of disabled and adaptive motor sport to Defence. Run by veterans, serving Officers and motorsport professionals, it was established in 2011 to provide rehabilitation opportunities in motorsport for the wounded, injured and sick. The charity caters for serving personnel as well as veterans from all three services, seeking wherever possible to merge the activities of the disabled with able bodied personnel in the world of motorsport.

Mission Motorsport centers around 3 key areas:

EXPERIENCE – In the provision of days out, privileged access to big events and a front seat, white knuckle introduction to an exciting and engaging sport.

COMPETITION – The preparation, development, coaching and teamwork involved in motorsport differs little from that of the military. By training and competing we engender a team ethos which is about much more than just the driving; car and bike preparation, logistics, support and race management all present challenges to be overcome. This can greatly help in the rebuilding of individual’s confidence and provides emotional as well as practical support.

VOCATION – Mission Motorsport are the MoD’s Recovery Career Services ‘Relationship Managers’ to the UK motor industry, finding vocational opportunities for those facing significant barriers to employment. They have placement schemes with motor manufacturers, as well as in the wider motorsport industry; this encompasses diverse skills including media, logistics and management. Recently they have had wounded personnel filling jobs with Aston Martin Racing, Caterham F1, Jaguar Landrover and Bentley.

James Cameron, Director explained, “Mission Motorsport are delighted to have any entry in the Birkett at with wounded injured troops not only driving but also providing race support for the team. Many thanks to The Seven Fifty Motor Club for their support with this event”
