BRSCC Oulton Park 20th April 2015

Glorious sunshine greeted competitors and a healthy crowd of spectators for the BRSCC meeting at Oulton Park last Saturday (18th April).

The Avon Tyres Northern Formula Ford 1600 Championship topped the bill, with a pair of races for both the Pre ’90 and Post ’89 classes. There was drama at the very start of the opening Pre’90 race, with the first two rows of the grid eliminated in an incident at Old Hall corner on the first lap. This allowed a delighted Calum McHale to record a dominant first ever victory in FF1600. The race one accident also had repercussions later in the day, with the grid for race 2 being set by the result from race one. With the front-runners again hampered, McHale was able to complete a perfect day by taking a second victory, with Chris Hodgen in second and Andrew Thomas completing the podium.

In the Post’ 89 class, Josh Fisher took the flag in race one after a race long battle with David McArthur and Tim McArthur, with the top three being covered by under two seconds after a thrilling 20 minute race. The result was reversed in the day’s second race, as David McArthur won by just 0.218 seconds from Josh Fisher in second, with Martin Short a further 10 seconds back in third place.

The Super Mighty Mini racers put on a fantastic display in their opening encounter, with an almighty six car battle for second place behind runaway victor Scott Kendall. Ian Slark and Paul Inch emerged from the chaos with the remaining podium places, with second to sixth place being covered by one second at the chequered flag. In the second race of the day, Scott Kendall again took the win, closely followed by Jamie White, with David Berney a further seven seconds back in third.

The opening Mighty Mini race was won by 18-year-old Brayden Fletcher, who lead from start to finish to take his first ever win in car racing. He was followed by fellow teenager Josh Young, with Maria Brown taking third. Fletcher came within half a second of doubling his victory tally later in the day, just losing out to Liam Sullivan.

In the Ford XR Challenge, Mark Robinson won race one, closely followed by Ralph Fernihough and Craig Brookfield. Race two featured the same three men on the podium, with a much larger 4.5 second margin of victory for Robinson.

In the Toyo Tyres Porsche Championship, Gary Duckman took victory in both races, with Garry Lawrence finishing second and Ed Hayes taking third.
