Brands gets ready for the Super Prix

Brands opens its doors this weekend (11th & 12th July) to one of the most popular historic race weekends of the year, the Brands Hatch Super Prix and this year marks the 26th anniversary of this meeting.

The Historic Sports Car Club’s (HSCC) annual Historic Super Prix will see drivers battle it out on the Grand Prix circuit this weekend, over 370 historic racers will fill the paddock and the club have a 17 race programme scheduled for the two days.

HSCC championships will be out on track and include the HSCC Historic F2 FIA International Series, HSCC Jaguar Heritage Challenge, Pre ’80 Endurance Series and two races held by the Historic Grand Prix Cars Association (HGPCA). The March 772 is the car to beat in the Historic F2’s and this meeting is the second of only two UK dates for the championship with Donington Park having already taken place back in May – the last round was held at Monza.

In the HSCC Jaguar Heritage Challenge (pre-1966) which is a new series introduced by the club for this season, will see well-known drivers Martin Stretton, Graeme Dodd, Chris Ward and Bobby Verdon-Roe going head to head in E-types, this has the makings of an interesting race. The club also introduced the ‘Pre ’80 Endurance Series’ for sports-racing cars this year, GT and Touring Cars that competed in international races up to the end of 1979, and Brands will see various Lola’s and Chevrons going head to head over the weekend.

The Historic Grand Prix Cars Association (HGPCA) will showcase a mixture of famous GP cars that will include a Lotus 18/21 and the ex-Jim Clark Lotus 25 which will piloted by Andy Middlehurst all of which will be mixing it up with various other legendary racers including Coopers and Brabham’s.

Other races this weekend include 1970s Road Sports, Historic and Classic FF2000, Historic Touring Car Championship, Classic Racing Car Championship, Classic Formula 3, Historic Formula Ford 1600 Championship, Formula Juniors, two Derek Bell Trophy races for single seaters including Formula 5000s and the Historic Road Sports Championship with FISCAR for 1950s sports cars.

All the action starts on Saturday with qualifying from 09.00 and on Sunday from 10am.

Paddock42 will be in attendance with ‘ace’ lens man Simon Phillips trackside and in the paddock capturing all the action.
