Ginetta Confirm Changes To 2016 Championships

British road and race car manufacturer Ginetta has announced that it will be introducing a number of changes to their series for 2016 as they continue to support young drivers in motorsport…

To help control costs, testing will be restricted for both the Michelin Ginetta GT4 SuperCup and KICK Start Energy Drink Ginetta Junior Championships. Competitors will only be able to test at championship circuits during official pre-meeting tests and the official Friday test before the race weekend. The Juniors will also be able to nominate one additional day at each venue which will replace the championships free practice on the Saturday morning. The Junior championship will also have a further five races included next season, with three races scheduled at Donington Park, Croft, Knockhill, Rockingham and Silverstone.

Other news includes; following the successful split races during the BTCC weekends last season, the GT5 Challenge will introduce a PRO and AM format for the 2017 season – this we understand will be in addition to the GRDC (Ginetta Racing Drivers Club) + subclass who race at Brands Hatch, Silverstone, Spa Francorchamps and Donington Park. Changes in qualifying for the GT5’s will mean that race 1 grid will be based on the qualifying result and the race 2 grid based on the results of race 1 and where 3 races are scheduled the final will have a starting order determined by a reverse grid draw. 2016 sees the GT5 Challenge will joining the BTCC support bill for two rounds  at Thruxton in May and Croft in June

As  a manufacturer, Ginetta continue to support progression and the ultimate winner in the Junior Championship next season will be loaned a Ginetta G55 GT4 to compete in the 2017 Michelin Ginetta GT4 SuperCup. The Ginetta Racing Drivers Club (GRDC) champion will win an  entry into the Ginetta GT5 Challenge for 2017, plus a test in a Ginetta G57 or Ginetta G55 GT4 and the winner of the 2016 GT5 Challenge will take home £5,000 in Ginetta parts credit for next season, plus a test in a Ginetta G55 GT4.
